High Fidelity

Last 17th July, I watched a movie entitled "High Fidelity''. I'm sure many of you have watched this movie. This movie was directed by Stephen Frears and was out in the year 2000. The movie is actually based on a novel by Nick Hornby in 1995. The main idea of this movie is generally about love and how it reflects and affects the main character's life - Rob Gordon starred by John Cusack. The movie solely reflects on the main character, Rob Gordon, which is a man in the age of 30, who is having some difficulties in his life: he still does not achieve any of his dreams except having his own music record shop (which is not in the list before hand), and always having a bad relationship with women, especially in love. In the movie also, the director shows us that even though Rob Gordon has been in many intimate relationships, he still does not understand and recognize women's feelings. Worse still, he never realizes why many of his relationships end up badly. Also, in the movie, it shows how love changes Rob, who is not a gentleman, dedicated only to his music, only expects to have sex in any relationship and worse still, is not alert of others' feelings to a man that is craving for a loyal and eternity love. In the movie, the viewers are also exposed to the history of Rob Gordon's love relationship - the story of his ex-girlfriends.

What makes this movie interesting is, it is different compared to a normal love fictional story. In a normal love fictional story, the ending or the plot of the story usually can be expected easily, whether it started with a happy or sad beginning, in the end, the main characters surely will live happily ever after. However, this is quite different with this movie. The plot is quite different, there is no romantic scene in the movie. Furthermore, the main male character - Rob, has been pictured as a bad person, which the characteristic of him does not suit for a protagonist character. In the movie, we can see that Rob is not a gentleman, and is not very alert of others' feelings. It contrasts the normal love fictional stories where all the male main characters are usually pictured as gentle, kind, strong and handsome, so on and so forth.

The main character, Rob Gordon, is a very fascinating subject. What I'm trying to say is, he changes your perception and plays with your emotions while watching the movie. As for me, when i was watching the movie, i was very angry with him. He is a man, and so do I. But during the period of time (watching the movie), i feel that I'm ashamed to acknowledge there is a kind of man like him in this world. He is not alert of other people's feelings, especially girls' and he does not look for love, but more to having intimate physical relationship, or in a simpler word, sex. When I was watching the movie, Rob Gordon's characteristic has made me think about some issues. He's torturing my heart every time i watch his reaction towards other people, and the way he handles his problems, and in everything he does, and that's why I like Rob Gordon. Even though he was rude and not very gentle, but he is my favorite character in the story as he plays the big role that makes the movie alive.

In my own opinion, the ending of the story is quite okay. But, I do think that maybe we can have some extra scenes. In my own opinion, if i were the director, I will not reunite Laura and Rob after the death of her father, but in a time when Rob is completely change himself to a successful man. I will make Rob creating an album that is specially made for Laura, and he, himself contribute the lyrics and also sing the song. After a period of time, i will make him succeed as a businessman, an artist and also as a gentleman. Then i will reunite Laura and Rob together again, and this time they are completely devoted their lives for each other. I think it is better than having them together but Rob is still have some of his old attitude, which is flirting. It shows that he is not really devoted his love for Laura.

New Semester

Here comes the new semester again and as usual, there will be new faces, and not forgotten, the senior students with their new hopes and plans, and even some of them are discussing the latest hot topics – what else, Malaysia’s politic. I can’t say much about politic, what I can say is, I just want the government to take care of Malaysians, and by all means, I just want a true, dedicated and credible Malay to lead the country as the Prime Minister, that’s all. As for myself, I need to improve my CGPA, thinking of my future that lies ahead. I can’t predict what my future will be, so from now on, I need to get ready and be prepared to face the future, which I’m sure is much tougher than it is now. As for now, I'm dissatisfied with my last semester’s result, so I think it is a must for me to increase my CGPA for this semester, and this requires the need of staying focused. So I have decided to sell my desktop computer to avoid being addicted to gaming, well, it’s unfortunately my favorite pastime. I've spent a lot of times gaming for the past years, so I think it is better for me to get rid of it now, or else, I won't get what I want this semester. So I've bought a new laptop to replace my desktop, maybe it is not as good as my previous computer, but I still can use it for academic purposes. It just has a minor disability in graphic performance, which i think is not that important to me, for now.

PTPN...... this should be a happy news for us, students, but it seems it is not. We have been waiting for so long, and the semester has already started for a week now and still have been hearing nothing about it. Where is the PTPTN missing? Do they know that students really need money to buy their textbooks, stationery, and to be spent on other expenses? We need it so much. On the 13th of July, I received the latest newsflash from my friend. PTPTN has already been banked in into our account. YES, it should be a great news, but some of us, students, are increasingly disappointed because we realize that some of our money (about RM200) is missing. Where is the money?? I've heard some rumors about the missing money, but i can just remain silent. I'm just a student. However, it is significantly essential to note that students do have power. In Indonesia, the students play their rules to change their government, they play the big roles in going for or against the government. But hopefully Malaysia won't be like them. I don't want to have the power to control my country if it means that the foreign power will have the chance to invade us like Indonesia. But still, students do have the power. It is just about the right time for them to use it. Besides that, I don't think students should emphasize politic more than their studies, if they fail in their studies, do you think that they are qualified to rule the country? The same goes to me, I need to focus on my study more than anything else.

It should be enough of politics. Back to the main point, my new semester. This new semester has given me some shocking news. Hey, it's just a week, there are still plenty of weeks that lie ahead of us. So who knows what will happen after this. But I'm praying hard that anything that's about to happen in the future will bring good news to everyone. Amin.
